1859 Colton California with San Francisco inset and Buena Vista & “Frezno” county names.

Details

Nice example of Colton’s map of California.

The map is hand colored by counties and has an inset of San Francisco. Interesting view of San Francisco ten years after the Gold Rush, including the never-adopted Lagoon Survey, and proposed street names for in-filling in Mission Bay.

Among the more interesting counties shown are “Buena Vista” County (a short lived-proposal that lasted from 1855 to 1859) and “Frezno” [sic] County.
