Delightful literary-themed map of California

Details

This is a pictorial thematic map of California framing the state in terms of famous books which fit the state varied regions. Each book title is accompanied by an illustrated vignette. For example, Ina Coolbrith’s Songs from the Golden Gate sits adjacent an illustration of the Golden Gate Bridge. To the east, we find The Celebrated Jumping Frogs of Calaveras County, by Mark Twain; to the south is an illustrated traveling family and Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath. In the Pacific Northwest is a double-masted ship with Sea Wolf, by Jack London. Many other illustrations fill the state and even more titles fill the areas around the map.

Overall, a romantic view of California for book lovers. As the text beneath the title states: Discover California – the snow capped Sierra, bleached desert, stately redwoods and surging ocean…the early Indians, romantic Spaniards and inspiring missionaries…the route of the Donner Party and the Pony Express…life in mining camps, ghost towns and logging areas…the flamboyance and elegance of California cities – all the color, glory and romance of California live in the history and literature gathered here for readers of all ages.
