Nice pictorial promotional map of Marin County.

Details

This artfully-designed promotional brochure and map highlights the abundant natural attractions found in Marin County, CA. It is filled with vignettes of vacationers, historical scenes, and nature. Muir Woods and Mt. Tamalpais are given prominence: a young couple photographs the redwood trees and an out-sized hiker sits astride Mt. Tam in the center of the composition.

Sir Francis Drake’s proposed June 1579 landing spot is indicated. Interestingly, Sir Francis Drake Blvd. has been labeled in a different style, perhaps after the rest of the map was already laid out. This is probably due to the fact that the road was at the center of a legal fight around the time this map was published, with a proposed expansion being defeated by opposition by environmental groups.

Overall, a stylishly illustrated pictorial map celebrating and promoting this beautiful part of California.
