Description

This fine nautical chart extends along the California coast from San Diego Bay in the south to Cape Mendocino and Humboldt Bay in the north.

It was evidently used over time by either a ship captain or in a maritime office and is annotated with updates and lighthouse locations. These updates are especially numerous around the many islands dotting the California coast, including the Farallon Islands, the Santa Barbara Channel Islands, San Clemente Island, and Santa Catalina Island. There is also new coastal information, for example at San Pedro, Monterey, San Francisco Bay, and Point Reyes.

The Farallons are further highlighted in an engraved inset view.
