A wonderful 1950s-era pictorial map of Long Beach.

Details

This is a fun and attractive 1957 pictorial map of Long Beach, CA. Published by the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, the map does an excellent job of promoting the city while not taking the task too seriously. The map takes an approach that one might call “A Long Beacher’s View of the World.” The humor employed by the mapmaker is especially evident outside the city limits, where we see labels like: “smog pocket,” “unimportant area (not in Long Beach,” “nomads land,” bleak and tormented area,” and more.

Everything within the city limits is sunny and bright. This includes Catalina Island and Long Beach Harbor, which is labeled: “Worlds Richest Harbor.”

Condition Description
