Details

This is a rare panoramic photograph taken to commemorate “Slavonic Day” (September 20, 1915) at San Francisco’s 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. The camera is oriented towards the west, with the impressive “Tower of Jewels” at the right and the Palace of Fine Arts in the background at the center. Banners indicate several social and fraternal organizations dedicated to communities of immigrants from various nations, whose flags appear with the U.S. flag throughout the photograph. Prominent members of the San Francisco elite appear in the front rows towards the center, including Mayor James Rolph.
