Description
This is a hand-watercolored town plan of Winter Park, located northeast of Orlando Florida. Winter Park began as an 8-acre tract between the present-day Lakes Virginia, Mizell, and Berry. The completion of the South Florida Railroad in 1880, which connected Winter Park to Orland and beyond, proved crucial to the city’s development.
Our map depicts a vibrant city, much expanded in the post-WWII boom years. It was published by the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and was intended to promote tourism to the city; as such, both motels and a scenic drive route have been plotted.
Cartographer(s):
Frederic Q. Boyer was a mapmaker focused mainly on Florida.
