Description

ЛАОС

This is a high-quality, medium format Soviet era map of Laos. It was printed in Moscow in 1978, in the first years following the establishment of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

This was a time in which Soviet advisors exerted a great influence in the region, filling the vacuum left after the American withdrawal from Vietnam. The government enacted Soviet-style economic policies, including the collectivization of agriculture. A large inset at the top right illustrates a breakdown of agricultural, industrial, and mining operations in the country, along with key aspects of infrastructure.

Two other insets present the climatic zones and predominant ethic regions of the country. A fascinating example of later Cold War era cartography.
