Rare map of the Western United States, focusing on California at the time of the Gold Rush. The map extends east as far as Santa Fe and north as far as the French Canadian Colony on the Willamette River.
An inset map with the title Carta particolare delle baie di Monterey e di San Francisco… shows the bay regions of San Francisco and Monterey. There is descriptive and historical text along the left side and bottom of map.
Overall, this map represents a fascinating example of the extent to which the California Gold Rush captured the attention of Europe.
