Isidor Nathan Choynski was a Polish-born Jew who emigrated to San Francisco in 1854 and established the city’s first antiquarian bookstore. He later wrote regularly for American Jewish newspapers, and his accounts remain significant sources of information on the life of Jews on the West Coast in the mid-late 19th century. His son Joseph became a prominent boxer at the turn of the 20th century.
